Founded in 1945, the orchestra operated under different names in its early years until becoming the Filharmonie Bohuslava Martinů (Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra) in 1989. Based in the city of Zlín, it is one of the Czech Republic's most prominent regional orchestras. With a repertoire covering all periods, they have developed a special relationship with contemporary music. Since 2011 the orchestra has been resident in the newly built Kongresového centra Zlín.

With Aion Techni the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra recorded the premiere performance of the collection Opere per orchestra.
