Cataldo concert press release - June, 2010
Monday, July 15, 2011 | 09:20
On June 10th 2010 (19:00 CET) the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Petr Pololáník will give the world première performance of six new works by composer Giacomo Cataldo. The orchestra will be joined by violin soloist Leoš Zavadilík who will be featured in two of the works: Fantasia per violino ed orchestra and Piccola reminescenza per violino ed orchestra. The other works on the program will be the purely orchestral Preludio sinfonico, Notturno per orchestra, Sospiro elaborato, and Leggenda n.1 per orchestra.
The performance will take place at the Arts Centre (Domě umění) in Zlín, Czech Republic. Proceeds from the concert will be donated to benefit UNICEF's immunization programs.
This is the first concert dedicated exclusively to the music of Cataldo. He began his musical studies with the violin and piano at an early age, but found his true musical calling as a composer. Cataldo's sound is of the 21st century, embracing the expanded musical language of the previous century but without excluding any of the expressive possibilities of the tradition that lies behind it. The six works to be performed are each representative of his "neo-tonal" style.
Maestro Pololáník has worked with leading orchestras and opera houses both in the Czech Republic and abroad. His specialty is the performing and recording of contemporary music both in the concert hall and for film and other media through Capellen Music Production, of which he is the founder.
Violinist Leoš Zavadilík pursues an international career as a soloist, as well as having served as concert master for several major Czech orchestras. In addition, he is very active in the field of chamber music.
Later this summer streaming video of the performance will be made available giving fans from all over the world the opportunity to watch the concert online. A recording will also be produced for later release. Further details regarding the concert and performers are available (in Czech) at the orchestra's website: www.filharmonie-zlin.cz
